Phaeodactylum tricornutum is a diatom - Wikipedia
Phaeodactylum tricornutum is a diatom. It is the only species in the genus Phaeodactylum. Phaeodactylum tricornutum is one of two diatoms to have its genome sequenced (the other being Thalassiosira pseudonana). Genome Properties Of The Diatom Phaeodactylum Tricornutum: Phaeodactylum tricornutum is an obvious candidate because of its ease of culture and because it can be genetically transformed. Therefore, we have examined its genome composition by the generation of approximately 1,000 expressed sequence tags.
