Biofixation of Carbon Dioxide - Definition, Glossary, Details - Oilgae
The increase in the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide is considered to be one of the main causes of global warming. Microalgae and cyanobacteria can contribute to the reduction of atmospheric carbon dioxide by using this gas as carbon source. This process is known as biofixation of carbon dioxide, as the fixation is done by biological and not synthetic means.Links
International Network on Biofixation of CO2 and Greenhouse Gas Abatement with Microalgae - Biofixation of CO2 by microalgae, especially as an option for the utilization of flue gases from power plants, has been the subject of extensive investigations in the U.S., Japan and Europe. The International Network was organised based an initiative by the United States Department of Energy (US DOE) and EniTecnologie S.p.A. The International Network has been established as a project under the IEA GHG Implementing Agreement.
