Algae are microscopic plant-like organisms that contain chlorophyll. They are nourished by carbon dioxide (CO2) and rely on sunlight to carry out photosynthesis. Simply put, you don't want algae in your swimming pool. So how do they get there? Most often through the atmosphere, via rain or wind. Algae grow in colonies.
